About CATA

The Crawford Area Transportation Authority or as our loyal riders call us “The CAT” has been a prominent fixture in Crawford County since 1979. Incorporated as a municipal transit authority, CATA offers a variety of services to ALL of Crawford County.  Our services include fixed route bus service in the city of Meadville and Titusville and door to door transportation throughout the county.  So whether you live in Meadville and use CATA to get to work or you live in Conneaut Lake and use CATA to attend activities at the senior center in Linesville, CATA is for EVERYONE!

Every person in Crawford County benefits in one way or another by CATA. Even if you do not use our services, chances are a family member, a neighbor or someone you know does. Whether that person is one of the hundreds who rely on CATA for transportation to work, an elderly family member or neighbor who needs transportation to a doctor’s appointment, somebody riding CATA to shop at a local downtown business or a student from Allegheny College riding the bus to attend a Gator’s home football game, CATA is a positive influence in the community.

CATA is comprised by a fleet of 20 vehicles. CATA has completed an overhaul of our fleet that has resulted in a $1,600,000 investment into our service.  In 2008, CATA took possession of 8 new vehicles that represent 40% of our entire fleet.  The new vehicles include 4 low floor mass transit buses, 2 accessible 16 passenger buses and 2 grand accessible mini-vans. Fast forward to 2010 and we are still working very closely with PennDOT to replace our oldest shared ride buses and we plan to introduce our 4th mini-van into our operations later this year. Mini-vans are a great way to provide door-to-door transportation at a more efficient cost all while not sacrificing service or ADA accessibility.

2010 should prove to be another great year for CATA as we focus our main attention on the construction of our new Intermodal Administration facility. We are on schedule to break ground and complete over 80% of the facility construction in 2010. With federal, state and local funding commitments in excess of $3,000,000 CATA is again making a strong investment into our service and helping to improve our community. All the while, we’ll keep our buses running and our services running strong; This past year CATA provided over 250,000 passenger trips; a number that is up by almost 20,000  from the previous year.

The future is bright and continues to provide many new opportunities for CATA. Funding challenges continue to be an issue, fuel prices are always uncertain but with a strong investment in our service, CATA is positioned well for the future. With everything going on, now is the best time to climb aboard and give CATA a try.

Thank you and remember…RIDE THE CAT!!!
